Somehow, (I’ll bare you the story) I was given some generic q-tips.cotton swabs. The kind with cotton on the end of a plastic rod. I went to use them and scratched the inside of my ear with the plastic. There was not enough cotton on the tip to completely cover the plastic. They didn’t even do their job. I have to use several of them and make sure to inspect each one. Needless to say, I have a random box of nearly full cotton swabs at my home that I don’t use & don’t want to throw away because I hear my Momma, “Waste not, want not.” They’ve been sitting there for 2+ years… I’ve been passing them up and buying better quality cotton swabs. Anyone need some scratchy ones? No? I can’t blame you. Point is, I will pay the extra money to ensure I get better quality q-tips and never have to feel that pain again or more importantly waste a box that ends up collecting dust and cluttering up my life. Maybe I need to find a craft for them…
What do q-tips have to do with a CrossFit gym?? I know. Bear with me. I tell people I do CrossFit and I periodically get asked, Why is CrossFit so expensive? Why is CrossFit Hays more than it’s competition? People that haven’t joined don’t understand the value of what it provides – a community of like minded people, a support group to keep you accountable, a dedicated coach to ensure I’m safe and doing the movements correctly, scheduled class times with programming already in place, coaches that care about my fitness goals, and friends that will last a lifetime. My q-tip experience is similar. Sure, I can go a bit cheaper and sign up for a globo gym or do Crossfit somewhere else cheaper. I could buy a DVD to do at home. I could even buy an app and do it that way… but will I actually workout? Am I going to see results? Do they cover the tip with just enough to call it good? I can tell you from experience personally and through clients that it takes quite a bit of self disciple to do it on your own. For me, the community environment keeps me coming. The knowledge that my gym invests in the coaches education to ensure I stay safe & can tailor or modify movements for me puts me at ease.
