You know that smell… you put on your workout clothes, get into your groove, and as soon as you start sweating you smell that stench. It’s disgusting. You hope your workout buds don’t notice… but they do. How do workout clothes get like this? Well… that’s self explanatory, but I can tell you my secrets for getting it out & without any harmful chemicals (or expensive products)
- Let your sweaty gear air dry. Don’t just toss them into the laundry basket and resurrect it a week later to wash. That’s the perfect breading ground for bacteria. Let them dry fully. Hang them on the side of your laundry basket for day.
- Soak & Pre-wash your clothes in 1 cup of vinegar and 1/2 the amount of detergent in a quick cold cycle. I have a setting on my machine that will soak up to 3 hours. I usually do the full 3 hour soak overnight or if we’re in a hurry I do a 30 min of soak & quick wash. NOTE: I love essential oils. I’ve been known to add 2-3 drops of tea tree oil into the wash at this step. It kills bacteria, lice, and other nasty germies my kids bring home.
- Wash as normal in cool water. Again I use slightly less soap than what is required & I add 1 cup of baking soda to the basket. NOTE: If you have hard water always use vinegar in your final rinse.
- Air dry if possible or on low heat with wool dryer balls. I usually add a couple essential oils (citrus, lavender, etc) drops to my dryer balls to freshen my clothes even more.
