Congratulations to our January 2018 Athlete of the Month!
Rosalinda Ponce
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m 49 going on 25…married to Romeo, blessed with 4 adult creatures, 7 beautiful grandkids and a 4-year-old shih tzu (Julie) who runs the house. I enjoy family time, CrossFit, dancing, eating, karaoke, movies, and eating…oh I believe I have already said that! J
I’m thinking of taking guitar lessons in the near future, if CrossFit doesn’t kill me…lol!
The hubby and I own a construction company and we both work out in the field (building houses) and I also do all the books.
What brought you to CrossFit?
I used to attend gyms before I started CrossFit, but I always ended up losing motivation and would quit.
One day I read about CrossFit in the newspaper and decided to give it a try. I was immediately hooked. That was the fix I needed.
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
I have been doing CrossFit for a little over 3 years, on and off, due to medical issues.
How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness?
CrossFit has educated me in so many ways. It has made me a better person; lifted my self-esteem; changed my physical appearance – became stronger, more flexible, more agility and endurance. I have also met some amazing people who have believed in me more than myself.
Favorite CrossFit lift/movement?
My favorite CrossFit lift is the deadlift and I enjoy double-unders.
Least favorite CrossFit lift/movement?
My least favorite lift is of course the snatch. Wall balls and burpees don’t like me either.
Name one goal and/or personal record you would like to accomplish through CrossFit.
I would like to be able to do 10 unbroken unassisted pull-ups and a muscle-up. Also, I would like to be a better runner and overall lift heavier.
Anything else you want to add.
I am extremely happy and surprised to know I was chosen as athlete of the month. CrossFit Hays is my family and I feel blessed to be part of this community with all these beautiful creatures. I enjoy working out with everyone, the cumbia music at my request and the high-fives. We have awesome coaches that focus on technique and safety above all else. They are very motivating; push us beyond our limits; and help us believe what our minds tell us we are incapable of. Although, I think they go to sleep plotting how to make us puke the following day with their workouts.
Thank you, CrossFit Hays, for all the great moments. Looking forward to many more.
