Congratulations to our February 2018 Athlete of the Month!
Ray Sanchez
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I was born and raised in Austin, though I’ve also lived in Philly, New Jersey City and Boston. Growing up, I played basketball and football. As an adult, I started training in MMA and running to stay in shape; I even ran a marathon right at 4:03. Never again. My other passion is Salsa dancing. My girlfriend and I try to go out dancing twice a week.
What brought you to CrossFit?
I happened to catch some of the 2013 CrossFit games on TV and thought “Dang, these athletes are badasses. I want to do this.” Soon after, my older sister Karen told me that she had joined CrossFit Hays. I joined a month later and have been hooked ever since.
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
It’s been since April 2014-almost 4 years.
How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness?
Learning about the Paleo diet when I first started CrossFit made me much more aware of what I put into my body and it has completely changed how I eat and think about food. I’m stronger, have more endurance, and am much more disciplined thanks to CrossFit.
Favorite CrossFit lift/movement?
I guess it would be squats and deadlifts. Even though you always hurt the next day, I feel like it works my entire body.
Least favorite CrossFit lift/movement?
Running and wall balls. They seem to suck the life out of me.
Name one goal and/or personal record you would like to accomplish through CrossFit.
To be a better Olympic lifter.
Anything else you want to add.
Thank you to all the coaches and athletes at CrossFit Hays. I never thought I would be part of such an awesome community.
