On August 1, 2017, my husband and I welcomed our daughter to the world. She weighed 6 lbs. 15 oz. at birth and weighs a healthy 11 lbs. today. Pre-pregnancy, I was an avid crossfitter. I worked out at CrossFit Hays 6 days a week and was in the best shape of my life. Because of my longtime workout regime, I was lucky enough to be able to continue my CrossFit workouts throughout my pregnancy, with modifications. I worked out all the way up to 7 months of my pregnancy.
My entire life, I have always been the chubby kid. I have never had the luxury of eating whatever I wanted and it not showing up somewhere. I have to work hard to lose weight and keep it off. It wasn’t until I found CrossFit that I was able to find a balance that I could maintain. Even still with my newfound active lifestyle and continued effort to stay active throughout my pregnancy, I gained 55 pounds. Yup, a whopping 55 pounds. Having my daughter is worth every pound, every stretch mark, every change in my body, and I would do it all over again tomorrow if I had to.
It has now been two months since giving birth and I am down 15 pounds. I lost those 15 pounds in the first week since giving birth and have not been able to shed any additional weight since. It has definitely been a struggle. I was told throughout my pregnancy not to worry about it because breastfeeding would help me drop all of the weight. I should have known that my body is not like others and I cannot drop weight that easy. I am now trying to get my body as strong and as healthy as it used to be.
It has been 4 weeks since I have been cleared to workout and I have consistently been working out 5-6 days a week, taking it slow. Even still, no weight loss. I now have to dial in my eating habits. I don’t eat terribly, but I don’t stick to a paleo diet either. I would say I am somewhere in between. I enjoy lean meats, vegetables and fruits but I also enjoy a cookie or pancakes every now and then. Eating healthy is the hardest part for me. I can workout every day, no problem! But sticking to a diet…not easy for me. I need accountability, motivation, meal ideas, weight checks, support and other people to do it with me. CrossFit Hays recently promoted a 6 Week Nutrition Challenge that came with all of those things. So, what better way to get myself in gear? I will be starting October 9th. If anyone thinks they are too far from their goals to start, you’re not alone! You have to start somewhere and my start is right here.
