Congratulations to our April 2017 Athlete of the Month!
Sergio Sanchez
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
My name is Sergio Sanchez, I am a US Army Veteran. I am currently a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. My family and I relocated from Austin to Buda at the end of 2015.
What brought you to CrossFit?
I was part of a CrossFit box years ago when I was stationed at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, TX. Back then I was in the best shape of my life. Since leaving the Army, my fitness level and my general well being deteriorated tremendously. CrossFit Hays is conveniently close to my house, so I thought, “now I have no excuse not to get back into the best shape of my life once again.”
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
Going on 4 months.
How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness?
CrossFit has improved my life in many ways. First and foremost it has improved my well being. I have been on blood pressure medication in the recent past, and since starting CrossFit I have been able to naturally lower my blood pressure and get off my medication. Being a disabled Veteran I often deal with symptoms of PTSD. CrossFit has provided me an amazing outlet to deal with these symptoms not only physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. Finally, it has changed the way I look at nutrition. I now pay very close attention to what I eat so I can get the most optimal performance out of my body everyday.
Favorite CrossFit lift/movement?
I think it a toss up between the Squat, Power Clean, and Deadlift.
Least favorite CrossFit lift/movement?
Anything that involves running.
Name one goal and/or personal record you would like to accomplish through CrossFit.
I would like to drop about 20 pounds.
Anything else you want to add.
I just want to thank all the coaches and athletes at CrossFit Hays for the continued motivation, inspiration and all the helpful tips. One of the highlights of my day is coming to get my butt kicked day in and day out, with all of you.
