Congratulations to our July 2018 Athlete of the Month!
Stacy Wilfert
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
An elementary teacher that loves to work out, be surrounded by friends, and has a slight obsession with my miniature schnauzer, Frank, and great white sharks. My immediate family is in Tucson, AZ, and I have two awesome nephews who love to cheer me on. I’ve lived all over in places like Huntington Beach, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Tucson, and now Austin.
What brought you to CrossFit?
Before I came to CF Hays, I did a lot of research on CF gyms in the area. I stalked the Hays Instagram and felt like it would be a right fit for myself, not just physically, but mentally…the people seemed down to earth and I was right. I feel like we are all like-minded individuals that enjoy bringing one another up. No one has an ego and everyone is there to push themselves, which helps motivate myself to do better each day.
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
I started CrossFit in Burbank 5 years ago. Since then I have been a member at CF gyms in North Hollywood, Walnut Creek, and Tucson.
How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness?
I grew up playing competitive softball. Every weekend I was out of town at softball tournaments and the need to compete has always been in my blood. Since being an adult is no fun, CrossFit has brought that level of competition back into my life, yet now I am competing with myself. I enjoy being and feeling strong and I like lifting heavy things…not sure why. CrossFit has become my daily therapy and it is something I am passionate about and love being a part of.
Favorite CrossFit lift/movement?
I love the Fran workout, double-unders, and squats for days. Squats on squats on squats. Any and all kinds.
Least favorite CrossFit lift/movement?
Okay, I lie, I truly dislike overhead squats and squat snatches. Barf.
Name one goal and/or personal record you would like to accomplish through CrossFit.
I would just love to get my ass against the wall and hold myself in a handstand hold for like 10 seconds…just once and then life would be complete.
