Michelle Zulaica
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I just turned 43 years old, the youngest of 5, single mother of one, son Avery and I’m an HR Manager. I’m originally from McAllen, TX and relocated to Austin when I was 9 years old. Love Austin, running, and anything outdoors.
What brought you to CrossFit?
I’ve always been active, running and at the gym but after I turned 40, I noticed that it was getting harder for me to stay fit. My energy was low, my routine was not consistent, my weight was increasing and I noticed that I had to work harder just to maintain it. I needed to make a change.
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
I started CF back in 2014 but it was off and on, I wasn’t focused and dedicated, till now.
How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness?
I’ve been at CrossFit Hays since 2015 and I would have to say that it has been an amazing experience. First, the coaches are wonderful, they keep you on your feet and they also push you to your limit. Second, the CF athletes are inspiring, the motivation, the encouragement and the friendly competition within the CrossFit Hays family is what keeps me coming back every day. I can finally see and feel the difference; I’m stronger, healthier and happier!!!
Favorite CrossFit lift/movement?
Back Squats and Deadlifts.
Least favorite CrossFit lift/movement?
Wall Balls!!!
Name one goal and/or personal record you would like to accomplish through CrossFit.
Upper strength is my opportunity; goals are rope climb, pull-ups and handstand push-ups.
Anything else you want to add.
It doesn’t matter what your age is when it comes to CrossFit. It’s hard at first, but as long as you keep focused, stay dedicated, be consistent, eat healthy, and surround yourself with positive athletes, that want nothing but the best for you. There is nothing more rewarding than when you start seeing and feeling the difference within yourself.
