CrossFit Hays Dog Policy
It’s 2017… we all love dogs right? There’s been a cultural shift in society and everyone seems to love their pooch or fur animals. More and more young adults are getting pets and starting their families later and later. BUT… the reality is that we can’t have pets at the gym. Why?
Our clients come to us for fitness and fitness related services and pay us good money to pour our lives into ways to help you be successful in fitness. Our clients pay a premium because they know they get personalized group fitness classes where gains are inevitable. Pets don’t increase gains and can pose some issues and should stay home the next time you come to our box.
What’s the issue?
- It’s a safety issue for the dog and our clients. If they are on the workout floor it can be an issue when we’re throwing around weights. Plus, dogs can get into fights with other animals and in rare cases can snap at humans. This is for sure something that doesn’t happen every day, but if my insurance doesn’t want the risk or liability for it, I don’t either.
- Let’s face it, it can be a sanitary issue. Dog hair isn’t that attractive when you’re sweaty and doing ground work. Burpees are bad enough. Plus, there is risk of an accident or a dog that likes to mark his territory. Yuck. Let’s just not go there.
- Some people are sincerely frightened of dogs.
- What about that bark or nervous nature? Not everyone thinks your dog is as cute as you do. I know from personal experience. I can tune out my dogs high pitched bark, but others have made it known (nicely) just how annoying it can be.
While we love dogs (we have 2 at home) I can’t really see how he would help me get fit inside the box. Our 2 dogs are older with super calm demeanors, well mannered, & potty trained but at the end of the day there’s a time and a place for everything and the gym isn’t it. We’ve been lenient on animals at the gym in the past but have decided to update our dog policy in the interest of keeping everyone as safe and focused on their fitness as possible. If you have a dog emergency and need to bring your dog, it should be leashed and accompanied by their human at all times (outside the box near the picnic table).
